A chilling new poll, reports the London Sunday Times, shows:
- almost a third of British Muslim students believe killing in the name of Islam can be justified
- and two in five Muslims on campuses support the incorporation of Islamic sharia codes into British law.
Upon also visiting more than 20 universities to interview students and listen to guest speakers, the researchers determined that extremist preachers regularly give speeches that are inflammatory, tending toward antisemitism, or homophobic.
Anthony Glees, professor of security and intelligence studies at Buckingham University, said: “The finding that a large number of students think it is okay to kill in the name of religion is alarming … The solution is to stop talking about celebrating diversity and focus on integration and assimilation.”
This important study should, but probably won’t, give pause to those who deny or dismiss the existence of Islamic militancy on Western campuses.
