FBI-Hi Ed Meeting of the Minds

The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Security Higher Education Advisory Board has to some extent let the rest of us in on its deliberations.

The board has been discussing safeguarding “wide open” faculty research, “unacceptable” breaches of cyber security, and the Commerce Department’s “deemed export” rule – that is, government restrictions that limit the sharing of certain technological information.
Since 9/11, according to Inside Higher Ed, academics’ habitual distrust of the FBI has waned. Terrorism does seem to force a focusing of mind – even among those who seem to see themselves as bullet-proof.
