Founding Fatherless

Carl Menges has resigned from the board of trustees of Hamilton College over the school’s decision not to establish the Hamilton Center, to which Menges had promised $3.6 million. I’ve written an article about the controversy in the current issue of NR; Menges was one of my key sources. This development strongly suggests that there is absolutely no hope that Hamilton College might come to its senses and reverse its mistaken decision of last fall.

To follow the controversy, which is ongoing, check out the website of the Hamilton College Alumni for Governance Reform — a great source of information about what’s happening at Hamilton. A discussion of my article is here. And if you’re a Hamilton alumnus who doesn’t know about the just-announced alumni council elections, then be sure to visit the HCAGR’s home page. A few reform-minded alumni are trying to do for Hamilton what Peter Robinson and Todd Zywicki have been trying to do for Dartmouth. They deserve success.
