Freeman Hrabowski’s Approach to Higher Ed

There is a 60 Minutes segment on University of Maryland Baltimore County president Freeman Hrabowski. I am not sure he is right that the U.S. needs to have a lot more math and science graduates, but I wish that his no-nonsense, high-expectations approach to higher ed could be replicated at many other colleges and universities. The reason it can’t be is that far too many students want college to be easy and entertaining, and far too many professors would rather do other things than spend time working with their students. UMBC looks like an oasis of excellence in a sea of mediocrity.
