A Fundamental Dishonesty

Todd Zywicki is at it again. In an article based on a speech he made at the Study of Spontaneous Orders, he prods the higher-education establishment for some of its shortcomings.

Todd rarely holds back from saying what he really thinks; it was just a few years ago that he started a controversy at Dartmouth about his fitness to be a trustee because of some strong statements made at a Pope Center conference. (He was more than fit enough — it was the rest of the board that lacked judgment).

This time, he launches a blistering attack on higher education’s leadership, submitting that “the core principle animating the modern university is a fundamental dishonesty that subverts its core mission.” Whether the specific topic is college sports, grade inflation, or freedom of speech, he describes a corrupted institution that has lost its way.
