The Washington Times published a review of Sex & God at Yale this week.
Best line: “With a daughter competing her heart out in high school for a place in the Ivies, I was reminded of the old definition of a neoconservative: a liberal with a 16-year-old daughter.”
David DesRosiers, who writes the review, jokes that “Girls Gone Wild at Yale” would have made a plausible alternative title. But he goes on to make a serious and important connection that I hope all readers will make — that Yale epitomizes the condition of most universities today in its utter loss of moral and intellectual purpose. In other words, Yale’s problems aren’t ultimately about sex, but about its leaders’ bitter rebellion against truth, virtue, and reason.
Within the pages of Mr. Harden’s salacious page-turner lies a very serious, soulful purpose. . . . What makes this book interesting is that Mr. Harden’s refreshingly hypernormal and educated soul rebels against the postmodern academy. His reaction to his experiences at Yale is what you’d expect from Bill Buckley if he walked into the 21st-century version of his alma mater.
