Giving Responsibly

Alumni loyalty is the oil that greases the money-machine of the university. It spurs generous donations, usually with no strings attached, even from alumni who know their money is going to programs and policies that they detest.

It doesn’t have to be that way, however. On the Pope Center site, Jenna Ashley Robinson reports on how you can maintain your principles and still support your school. One idea: Give money to a national organization (e.g., Students for Liberty or the Network for Enlightened Women) and designate your gift to the chapter on your campus.
