Glucksmann on the “Plague of Somalisation”

French philospher André Glucksmann participated in the 1960s protest movement and opposed the communist regimes of Eastern Europe.

In “Vietnamisation or Somaliasation?,” an article which first appeared in Der Standard, he surveys “the abomination of abominations: the [planet-wide] war against civilians…[for which] Somalia is an in vivo laoratory.”

To the historically challenged pacifist chorus charging that the war in Iraq is another Vietnam, Glucksmann shows why “Zarqawi was no Ho Chi Minh,” and he urges passionately that Iraq not be left “to the throat-slitters.”
