The July 13 issue of Forbes has a good article by Daniel Bennett of the Center for College Affordability and Productivity. He argues that higher ed is rife with needless spending and educators who do very little educating, and concludes that we need to convert American higher ed from a seller’s market to a buyer’s market.
I particularly like this line: “Low productivity will get a boost from the Obama Administration’s love affair with entitlement spending masquerading as education reform.”
The only line I don’t like is the assertion that adjunct faculty are “overworked and underpaid.” They probably do have to work harder than full-time faculty and certainly are paid less, but I wouldn’t jump to the conclusions that they’re “overworked and underpaid.”
