Is Higher Ed an Engine of Inequality?

I am among the people who contributed to this Chronicle forum. In short, I maintain that higher ed has a little to do with increasing inequality, chiefly by fostering the credential mania that makes it needlessly difficult for individuals who don’t have college credentials to get into good careers.
