Hunger Strike Against Core Curriculum at Columbia

According to The New York Sun, students engaged in a hunger strike at Columbia University are protesting what they portray as “the university’s Eurocentric core curriculum and a climate of ‘institutionalized racism’ on campus.” They are also demanding that the university hire more faculty at the Ethnic Studies center.
Somewhat more enigmatically (for the moment), about 15 students have responded to the strike by creating a group called “Why We Act, Why We Eat,” whose mission is to “eat against a group that seems not to care for the well-being of its students or itself.”
This is about further war against the mainstays of a great liberal arts education. There are those who won’t stop until it’s obliterated everywhere. President Lee Bollinger and the university’s board of trustees must not permit the core to further eroded.
