‘I Don’t Know That It Would Do Much Good’

The NAS report on the heavy politicization of the University of California system is starting to make waves. UC President Mark Yudof admitted that he is bothered by inappropriate political activity by faculty members, but when asked by Cal State–Chico history professor Charles Geshekter if he would send a memo to UC campus chancellors telling them to clamp down on it, he replied, “I could do that, but I don’t know that it would do much good.” Read all about the exchange here.

Is Yudof saying that he has no control over the chancellors, or that he doesn’t want to fight this particular fight with them?
