Stanley Kurtz noted that Columbia University was using Facebook.com to investigate the Columbia Minutemen protests. As the Columbia Spectator reports:
Facebook is a public thing,” Robert Hornsby, a University spokesman, said. “It’s on the World Wide Web, and it’s not exempt as a resource. … Students may disagree with that, but they also have a prerogative to take down their Facebook entries.
Well, the thought of Facebook investigation is a little disconcerting, but… what did the protesters expect? Such sites are basically entirely public, and open to use by basically anyone – shouldn’t this have been clear when Myspace was purchased by Satan?
