Is It Just Islam?

Regarding the discussion Candace initiated on how to name violence in the name of Islam, Islam commands violence to advance the faith.  This is not a departure or an aberration from the faith but a very fundamental aspect of Islam, found in the Koran.  Fundamentalist Islam, Islamic fundamentalism are perhaps the most accurate terms if we want to acknowledge that not every Muslim will take up jihad, even if many will support it.  I believe those are the terms that were used when the problem of Muslim violence began with the car bombing of the Marine barracks in Lebanon and the taking of the hostages in Iran.  That was before our Muslim population grew to the point where it entangled us in political correctness.
When John Walker Lindh became a devout Muslim, the first thing he looked to do was to undertake jihad, since he believed that is what a good Muslim is supposed to do.  That’s what he was doing in Afghanistan when he ran into our troops, a religious duty.  The enlistment of women in jihad may be something relatively new, but it is certainly going on at present.  There is even a new magazine for Muslim women that teaches them how to combine jihad with family life.
