It’s Baaaaaaaaaaaaack!

Sex Week at Yale. In past years it has included everything from sadomasochistic-porn screenings, to sex-toy demonstrations, to live nudity in the classroom.

Last fall, after coming under federal investigation for alleged Title IX violations related to creating a hostile sexual environment for women, Yale administrators announced that the biennial pornification of Yale, aka “Sex Week,” would no longer be allowed to take place on campus.

In a statement, the university explained its decision to ban the decade-old series of sex-themed special events:

We heard over and over from students, faculty, and staff that “Sex Week at Yale,” a student-sponsored event, is highly problematic. A student-initiated event begun in 2002, it has described itself as “a campus-wide interdisciplinary sex education program.” Over time, this event clearly has lost the focus of its stated intention and in recent years it has prominently featured titillating displays, “adult” film stars, and commercial sponsors of such material.

It took them only a few weeks to reverse their decision.

Starting this week, Sex Week is back in its full glory. The only change is, this time around, while events are still being held in Yale classrooms, organizers are not allowed to use the Yale name in any of their promotional materials. So let’s just call it “Sex Week (at Y—).”

Here’s just a few items on the schedule this year:

– XXX Haiku Workshop

– Peg-Ass-Us: A Fairy-Tale with a (Very) Happy Ending Nick Chapel (Trumbull College Theatre)

– Your Body Is a Wonderland: Body Image and Sexuality at Yale Branford Common Room

– Work It: Founder of Babeland Sex Toys talks about Queer-Friendly Business and Pleasing Women

– Stripped Stories: A Night of Hilarious Sex-Themed Storytelling and Games Saybrook

– On the Grind: Queer Online Social-Networking

– Hysteria, a British Romantic Comedy on the Accidental Discovery of the Vibrator, Film Prescreening with Director Tanya Wexler

– Play With Your Playlist: Talk with Suki Dunham, Founder of OhMiBod Musical Vibrators

– Bad Romantics: A History… Drag Show and Queer Cabaret

– Fornication 101 with Oh Megan!

– Carol Queen: “Wisdom from Someone who Loves Sex to Someone Just Starting”

Think about the fact that this is among the most prestigious and influential universities in the world. Then check out the the cover on this week’s YDN Magazine. (Not safe for work.)

We’ll keep you posted.
