Ivory Tower Obama

Michael Barone has a good column, “Ivory Tower Obama Can’t Abide Views He Doesn’t Share.”

A few years ago, Professor Richard Epstein wrote that when Obama was on the Chicago law faculty, he scrupulously avoided any of the robust debates that characterized the faculty. Evidently, Obama has long been one of those pseudo-intellectuals John Stuart Mill had in mind when he wrote that “people who know only their own side of a case usually know little of that.” One of the great failings of American higher education is that it encourages ideological zealots to shield themselves from opposing ideas.
