In case you’ve missed it, Chuck Ross of the Daily Caller News Foundation has a great story out today, revealing the truth behind the alleged “hate crimes” at Oberlin College that made national headlines earlier this year.
The N-word, swastikas, and other racist graffiti were discovered around campus on multiple ocassions over the spring — an incident that received national attention from the news media. One student even claimed she saw a person dressed in the garb of the Ku Klux Klan walking around after dark. (Turned out, that was merely a girl wrapped in a blanket.) Still, there was all that disturbing racist graffiti that could not be #ignored#…
Today, Chuck Ross has revealed the identities of the two students who were expelled earlier this year in connection to the graffiti “hate crimes.” Surprise! Surprise! A pair of radical left-wing, Obama-supporting Democrats were responsible for the whole thing.
Even worse, it appears the top administrators at Oberlin knew months ago that the whole thing was a hoax, but they kept silent while the nation went through months of hand-wringing over the highly publicizied incidents. William Jacobsen summed it up well on his blog, Legal Insurrection: “School officials and local police knew the identity of the culprits, who were responsible for most if not all of such incidents on campus, yet remained silent as the campus reacted as if the incidents were real.”
In fact, Oberlin officials went so far as to cancel classes and hold a campus-wide rally against racism after the alleged KKK sighting –never once revealing to students or to the press that all the racist hate speech that had fueled fear and alarm up until that point was a hoax, carried out by outspoken supporters of president Obama. In fact, by that point they had already expelled the two students responsible — a fact they they kept to themselves.
Shame on Oberlin officials for playing right along with the left-wing “activists” on campus who carried out these hoaxes.
And pardon us here at NRO if we look on the next dramatic campus “hate crime” episode with more than a little skepticism. We’ve seen liberal activists carry out these fake hate crimes far too many times before too be fooled so easily.
