Linda Chavez on Race Preferences

Linda Chavez writes here about the new findings of her Center for Equal Opportunity about the use of racial preferences.

She says that race-preferential policies don’t even have a beneficial impact

on the students admitted with lower academic profiles.  On that point, she

is certainly right.  Thomas Sowell has for years maintained that racial

preferences mismatch students and schools.  Furthermore, getting a degree

from an elite university is neither necessary to nor sufficient for success

in later life.
The U.S. will be much better off once we get beyond the infatuation with

categorizing people by race.  Justice O’Connor said 25 years.  No reason to

wait even 25 minutes.
