More on Facebook

Today’s Washington Post reports that Facebook profiles of the candidates in the Maryland governor’s race are being used to reach out to college students. I don’t think creating a simple profile for a candidate is going to do much to benefit a candidate, but there is a lot of potential for future uses in the political realm (such as reaching out to sympathetic students based on self-identified political beliefs, organizing meetings/campaign volunteer activity as Facebook events, etc.). The last sentence sums the issue up nicely: “The Facebook and the peer-to-peer stuff is where blogs were four years ago,” PoliticsOnline’s Noble added. “It is just the beginning of the beginning for the use of this.”
