More on the Game of Oppression

My post on this yesterday drew this response from a reader:

The code words of The Game of Oppression are also in all “reform” methodologies of teaching today, particularly Writing Across the Curriculum (which has very little to do with writing and more to do with political agendas).  The code words included innovative, interactive and particularly “reflection” rather than the pseudo-masculine label “analysis.”  Other codes: hands on, active engagement with reflection, expressivist (vs. structuralist), global (vs. linear), circular, student-centered, active learning, gender-based learning, content-based learning, cooperative learning, caring and cooperating in the community, collaborative learning. All codes have one goal: to negate competition in favor of cooperation–what one CUNY grad student referred to as Soviet tactics.  A very bright Czech student of mine a year ago said this is the way they teach in Communist countries.
