In 1894, the university’s catalog was 50 pages long, representing a true “core” of important knowledge. Its current catalog is 620 pages, complete with the now typical “Chinese menu” of trendy courses, such as “White Masculinity and Sexuality in U.S. Popular Culture,” “Queer Ethnographics,” etc., etc., etc.
Fading fast, the deep meaning and benefits of a true liberal arts education, and the transmission to future generations of what they ought and need to know.
