Thanks, Carol, for what must be an excellent interview with Diane Auer Jones. I was struck by this statement:

The regulations regarding accreditation disallowed me from discussing AALE or any other accreditor directly with Secretary Spellings, and quite frankly, gave others in the DOE too much power to manipulate the documents and recommendations that Secretary Spellings would ultimately review when making her decisions.

What kind of sterile, labyrinthine bureaucracy is the Department of Education composed of if an assistant secretary can’t talk to her boss about a critical issue that is being mucked up by lower-level careerists? I guess I don’t even need to ask!
