National Awards

Here’s a regrettable story in USA Today about national awards given to professors by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.
The opening sentence reveals all: “The best college professors of 2006 jump on desks in the middle of lectures, cook bones on a grill to demonstrate ancient Chinese religious practices, and bring students to real-life crime scene investigations.” I have no doubt that the winners are excellent teachers, but do we have to highlight the most infotainment aspects of their work?
