Never Let a Crisis Go to Waste

My friend Harvey Silverglate explains in a Minding the Campus essay how the usual suspects (in this instance, higher-education consultants and lawyers) are trying to cash in on the nasty events that transpired at Penn State. More campus bureaucracy wouldn’t have stopped Jerry Sandusky, and more is extremely unlikely to deter future creeps, but in the current “WE MUST DO SOMETHING” frame of mind, the forces pressing for more bureaucracy may get their way.

If you have never read Harvey’s 1998 book (co-authored with Alan Charles Kors) The Shadow University or his 2009 book Three Felonies a Day, you should.
