Phi Beta Cons

This New Book Should be Worthwhile

I am referring to Academic Freedom in an Age of Conformity: Confronting the Fear of Knowledge. The author is Joanna Williams, director of the Centre for the Study of Higher Education at the University of Kent. She is also an editor at the iconoclastic magazine Spiked.

In this Minding the Campus essay by Rachelle Peterson of NAS, we find out more about the book, most notably that Williams maintains that the greatest threat to academic freedom comes from the professoriate.

My next email is to request a copy!

George Leef is the the director of editorial content at the James G. Martin Center for Academic Renewal. He is the author of The Awakening of Jennifer Van Arsdale: A Political Fable for Our Time.
