Last month, the Texas Public Policy Foundation published a paper by Rick O’Donnell entitled “Is Academic Research a Good Investment for Texas?”
He argues that it isn’t, pointing out that most of what is called “research” is of very little or no value. O’Donnell writes, “Today there are tens of thousands of refereed academic journals publishing an estimated two million articles per year, with many more articles submitted by not published. This means taxpayer money that coule be better spent on students goes toward paying for over 5,500 academic journal articles per day. . . . The drain on university resources is staggering.”
I think it’s time for a major offensive along this front.
