It’s interesting to note, by the way, that the AAUP is running like a dog with a frisbee to the defense of Finkelstein, who is a critic of Israel, but it couldn’t be bothered to lift a finger on behalf of Thomas Klocek, a DePaul instructor who was unceremoniously given the boot a couple of years ago because a few Palestinian student activists said that he offended them. Finkelstein’s main gripe is that he didn’t receive tenure, which he apparently believes is his God-given right. Klocek was fired for political incorrectness and the administration went on to suggest that he’s mentally unstable. The cases are similar in that they both involve DePaul, but rather different on the merits. The AAUP has picked the wrong one to turn into a cause.
