Not Waiting For Change

Yesterday a friend directed me to this powerful short documentary, called “We Are Not Waiting,” which capitalizes on the momentum for school reform created by the reception to Waiting for “Superman.” The essential goal of “We Are Not Waiting” is to urge churches to intervene directly into the educational process, by adopting public schools, creating tutoring programs, or even starting schools themselves. In other words, churches don’t have to wait for political reform — they can create the reform themselves, with their own resources.

I obviously don’t believe that college is for everybody (though there is definitely a right way to do college), but it’s clear that our kids often receive truly dreadful public school educations, and those dreadful educations have lifelong consequences.

Watch “We Are Not Waiting.” It’s well worth your time.

On April 20, 1968, Enoch Powell gave a speech to the Conservative Political Centre in ... Read More

A Trump Trade and Economic Doctrine

If the Treasury Department’s recent semiannual report is any guide, the Trump administration still doesn’t quite get it when it comes to trade imbalances. “The US government has all the tools it needs to achieve balanced trade without risking a trade war,” writes Joseph Gagnon for the Peterson Institute ... The Comey–Trump Dance

I never thought the Comey book would make much news for the simple reason that it would be outrageous if it did. If Comey knew something relevant and important about the Russia investigation that we didn’t already know, he couldn’t possibly put it in his book. Let’s say he did have something big on the ...
