Candace: That’s a nice tribute to the John M. Olin Foundation today in today’s WSJ. At the risk of immodesty, allow me to recommend my book, A Gift of Freedom: How the John M. Olin Foundation Changed America.
Meantime, a nitpick: Although it’s true that the Cornell experience in 1969 shaped Olin’s views on higher education (he was an alumnus and a trustee), the foundation itself was started in 1953 and it received its first big infusion of cash after Olin’s death in 1982.
