In October 138 Muslim clerics, scholars, and intellectuals issued an open letter supposedly seeking common ground with Christians, and now a large number of Christian clergy, scholars, theologians, and professors of religion have written an open letter in response. They begin, absurdly but predictably, by apologizing for the Crusades and for excessive violence in the war against Islamic terror. The Muslims’ letter, of course, contained no apologies and said nothing of the persecutions, past and present, that Muslims have inflicted on non-Muslims, and it stated no regrets for conquering, killing, enslaving, and converting to Islam many tens of millions of Christians, Jews, Zorastrians, and Hindus.
