To the extent that they’re upset over the high cost of college and their student loans (which is apparently one of the contributing factors), the “Occupy” protesters should consider the role of the federal government, as Vance Fried and Neal McCluskey point out in this New York Daily News piece. The feds, they write, have been “blasting helium into the college cost bubble.” At least some of the protesters are in the predicament they’re in because they got caught up in the higher-education bubble, just as lots of unfortunate people got caught up in the housing bubble.
