Nine years ago on the pages of National Review, I covered Glenn Poshard’s campaign — he was a Democratic congressman seeking to become the governor of Illinois. He lost, though Illinois might have been well served by his victory: The guy who beat him, Republican George Ryan, eventually was convicted on multiple corruption charges. We at NR were interested in Poshard because he was that rarest of things: a pro-life Democrat.
Poshard is now president of Southern Illinois University, and he’s coming under his own ethical cloud: He’s accused of plagiarizing portions of his Ph.D. thesis.
The allegations against Poshard were first reported in the SIU student newspaper, the Daily Egyptian, which is of course a great name for a student newspaper. Here’s a one-page document comparison (pdf file).
