Pulling the Plug on the MA Subsidy

Recently, the North Carolina General Assembly decided to pull the plug on a long-standing educational subsidy — automatic extra pay for teachers who obtained master’s degrees. It was always a foolish idea rooted in nothing more than the old alliance betweeen the state’s educational establishment and the Democrats who controlled N.C. for almost all of the last century. In today’s Pope Center piece, our new writer Jesse Saffron takes a look at this policy change.
