Ravitch Will Not Be Silenced

Yesterday I noted the immoderate, disgracefully personal attack by Kathryn Wylde on Diane Ravitch, the distinguished education critic and historian. The New York City Department of Education masterminded this dirty deed by keeping a secret dossier on Ravitch’s views and handing it over to Wylde.

Ravitch responds to the attack in today’s New York Post, using it as an occasion to air her views on the bogus “merit pay” deal between the teachers union and the Bloomberg administration; about “manipulable” state tests that are therefore a poor means for evaluating academic performance; and, worst of all, the administration’s disgraceful elimination of forums in which school officials must answer to the public about education.
