I don’t really buy Caruba’s argument; at any given school, there are a limited number of seats to put bottoms in. Therefore, unless a school is at less-than-full enrollment (or wanting to expand to more buildings or whatnot), there’s no benefit to lowering admissions standards. Caruba provides no evidence that any of these schools plans to see its enrollment go up as a result of dumping the SAT, so I’m inclined to believe the schools’ “diversity” rationale, however misguided it may be.
