Re: Law Schools

I’m not sure if it’s been mentioned already, but David French has a fine article at the NAS website on how law schools fail to provide an adequate education for future lawyers. It’s based on his own experience at Harvard Law, and is part of a section on law schools in the Summer issue of Academic Questions. The section also includes a short article on the growth of originalism by Robert Bork and a long article “Originalism in the Classroom” by David F. Forte, which, among other things, examines constitutional-law textbooks for their treatment of originalism. Also, not in the issue but at the website, David French and Charles Rounds do a pro and con on the value of law-school clinics in providing hands-on training.

Also, did you know that Joseph Flom, famous partner in the famous law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom, got into Harvard Law without a bachelor’s degree? He had done just two years of night school at City College. That has to be apropos of a lot of what we discuss here.
