I think it would be far, far better to encourage businesses to look to other indicators of trainability. Furthermore, if we continue to push more and more students through to BA degrees, then those credentials lose their usefulness as screening devices and we then ratchet up to yet higher degrees. There is reason to think that this is already happening in the business world, where an MBA is now obligatory for those who want to be considered for some positions, despite the fact that an MBA at many places is little more than rehashed undergrad courses.
