CNN is also reporting that former editor Acton Gorton is planning to sue the publishers of the Daily Illini for unlawful dismissal. He is quoted, saying, “If I can be fired, what will other students think who maybe want to challenge the status quo?”
It is astonishing how quickly students and teachers have become targets in this controversy, for example, Professor Karen Murdock at Century College in Minnesota. Long gone are the days when only Danish pastries and foreign embassies were targets. What’s next, the Taliban at Yale?
