Re: Title IX in Academia

We need to call off the crusade to eliminate the gender gap in math and science — according to that Boston Globe piece, the explanation for the “gap” is that for the most part, women aren’t interested in math and science careers.

I wish I understood why some people get all worked up over statistical disparities between groups. So long as people are individually free to pursue whatever they choose to, what difference does it make if each of the innumerable groups or classes in society are equally “represented” or not? Is it just that complaining about group imbalances provides them with social engineering issues, without which they’d have to do something else? Something useful?
