Rhee’sing Standards and Accountability in D.C.’s Public Schools

Washington D.C. confirmed Michelle A. Rhee as chancellor of the public school system on Tuesday. It is refreshing to see that Rhee is not an in-hire from, as the NY Times put it, America’s “most dysfunctional” and costly school system; Rhee instead comes from the New Teacher Project, a revenue generating non-profit group. It is worth noting that TNTP has advocated the elimination of teacher’s union rules, which award teaching positions based on seniority, rather than merit or performance. One can only hope that Rhee will bring this attitude with her to D.C.
