According to an Inside Higher Education survey, about “half of college presidents back or partly back an early version of Senator [Bernie] Sanders’s plan that would provide $18 billion to states to pay for two free years of public higher education.”
Okay, free money is popular. Since the biggest winners of this educational dole would be colleges and universities, we should expect a reaction like that.
Or should we? It means that half of all college presidents—presumably among the most knowledgeable people in the country—are content with a nearly complete immersion of their institutions into federal government funding and control. Just how far down the road to socialism have we gone?
