Professor Mueller is the first recipient of the Wayne Woodrow Hayes Chair of National Securities Studies at The Ohio State University. He is a widely published and renowned authority on warfare, diplomacy, and security. In addition, Professor Mueller also has written extensively on dance, film, and musical theatre, specializing in dance as an art form, dance history and film, and the choreograpahy of Fred Astaire. He has written more than 50 columns for DANCE MAGAZINE, produced and directed numerous dance films, and has received four grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). Professor Mueller has toured the world giving lectures and film showings on Fred Astaire, and was awarded the de le Torre Bueno Prize in 1983, presented by Dance Perspectives Foundation for ASTAIRE DANCING: THE MUSICAL FILMS as the most distinguished book-length manuscript in the field of dance. In addition, Professor Mueller co-authored A FOGGY DAY, a musical that combines a P.G.Woodhouse play with songs by George and Ira Gershwin. In 1989 and 1999, A FOGGY DAY was produced for two sold-out seasons (a total of 261 performances) at the Shaw Festival in Ontario, Canada. For his courtesy appointment in the Department of Dance, Professor Mueller will be involved in dance archiving, and will be a guest lecturer in selected classes.
