Saudi Student Visas Stalled

A reader fluent in Arabic has sent me the following item from a publication written in that language (link not available):

 

On Monday, August 27, in a prominent front-page story, the Saudi daily Al-Watan (The Nation) reported that this year Australia surpassed the U.S. as the number-one destination for Saudi students. Delays in U.S. visa issuance and security problems in the U.S. are reportedly the main reasons for this shift. Many students who are already enrolled in U.S. universities have asked the Saudi Ministry of Higher Education to change their scholarship destinations because the U.S. embassy refused to renew their student visas
