Berkeley physics professor Richard Muller has launched the Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature project, a new approach to global-warming science. Its aim is to “resolve current criticism of the former temperature analyses, and to prepare an open record that will allow rapid response to further criticism or suggestions.”
A video of Professor Muller in which he says of those implicated in Climategate, “You’re not allowed to do this in science. This is not up to our standards,” was posted recently by Reason and has been widely circulated. This week I had the chance to interview Professor Muller on his work and his scientific views. I appreciated his view that real science isn’t partisan, and that while “science doesn’t have a monopoly on truth,” it is “separate from politics and economics and other realms of knowledge.”
We need more scientists in our universities who hold to that principle.
