Sensitivity at Tufts

Another cause celebre involving incredibly fine-tuned sensitivity meters, this time at Tufts University. Apparently, the Tufts conservative newspaper, The Primary Source, felt compelled to issue an apology for a purely satirical Christmas Carol it ran last week in its December edition, lampooning the racial stereotypes inherent in racial preference programs.

According to InsideHigherEd.com, nobody in the Tufts administration or the Tufts student government, fortunately, is currently calling for cutting off any funding for The Primary Source, although Tufts president Lawrence Bacow issued a predictably-obligatory statement claiming that Tufts “…will work with students, faculty and staff to continue to find ways to promote a climate in which ideas can be exchanged freely while respecting members of our community as individuals…” We’ve all seen this movie before.
