In a SeeThruEdu post, my colleague Jay Schalin looks at two famous schools in North Carolina and one that is not so famous. The famous ones are NC State, where a winning football coach was just fired because he didn’t win enough and hadn’t recruited “Alabama-type talent,” and UNC–Chapel Hill, where academic scandal over athletes has badly tarnished the institution. The not-famous school that sets the good example is Belmont Abbey College, where the curriculum is solid, standards are high, and — shockingly — tuition was recently lowered by $9,000.
