Shortage of Tax Revenue Cramping Their Style

The University of North Carolina system, that is. Officials had lots expansion plans (including a new UNC law school building — talk about a waste of resources!) but the state’s debt-ridden budget is putting on the brakes. The Pope Center’s Jay Schalin writes about our circumstances here.

There are better reasons for pulling back from higher-ed-expansion ideas, such as the prospect of a higher-education bubble and the fact that many students who graduate have learned little of benefit and can only get “high school jobs,” but a budget deficit will do.
