“Some People’s Feelings Are Going to Get Hurt”

I’ve been following with interest the ongoing saga at New Mexico Highlands University where the school’s effort to make it “the nation’s premier Hispanic-serving institution” is running into significant legal problems. Turns out that the attempt to grow “a highly-qualified diverse faculty” includes not providing tenure to or renewing the contracts of two professors simply because they are white. These professors have sued (good for them) and one of them has apparently won a $250,000 settlement.
I particularly like the self-righteous response of some of the leftist Latino activists.  My favorite comment:

“Gumecindo Salas, vice president of government relations for the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, said Thursday that students often receive the best education when diverse faculty members are on staff. He cautioned that when only so many positions are available for tenure, some people’s feelings are going to get hurt.”

Feelings get hurt?  That’s a nice way of saying, “We will destroy your career and do incalculable harm to your family for the sake of our greater social goals.” It reminds me of David Horowitz’s comment in The Destructive Generation that (and I’m paraphrasing) for the sake of “the people” the Left is all to willing to harm, well, actual people.
