A story about racial preferences

A couple of weeks ago, I received an email from a man in California who had read an essay of mine questioning “diversity” and wanted to share his own experience.  This “disaffected leftist” (as he called himself) dislikes the idea of hiring based on race and pointed me to a piece he has posted here explaining why. With all the flap over the statistical studies on the University of Michigan’s admissions, I think it would be useful to focus on individual experiences such as this.
