Students Beg Legislators to “Have a Heart”

In-state tuition for North Carolina students in the UNC system is very heavily subsidized and among the lowest in the nation, but still students feel the need to beg legislators to make college more affordable, as you can read in this article in the student paper at UNC-Greensboro.
The story mentions a UNC-G senior who is majoring in Parks and Recreation Management, and laments that she’ll be $30,000 in debt when she graduates.
Why on earth is any college coursework necessary for someone who wants to help run parks, much less a BA degree? What is the scholarly content of the courses in such a major? Is it now a requirement that applicants for jobs in park management now have college degrees?
